Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D)

What is it?
AD&D is a benefit that pays your beneficiary or you up to $10,000 in the event of a covered loss that occurs within 365 days of the date of the covered accident.

Who's it for?
All active registered students who are taking six (6) or more credit hours and are active participants under a BCBSNC university student health plan.

What are the benefits?

Pays $10,000 to your beneficiary or you for the following losses in the event of a covered accident:

  • Loss of life
  • Loss of both hands or both feet
  • Total and irrecoverable loss of sight of both eyes
  • Total and irrecoverable loss of speech and hearing
  • Loss of one hand/foot and sight of one eye

Pays $5,000 to you for the following losses in the event of a covered accident:

  • Loss of one hand
  • Loss of one foot
  • Total and irrecoverable loss of sight of one eye
  • Total and irrecoverable loss of speech and hearing

Note: If you suffer one or more of the above losses, the maximum payable is $10,000.

Additional benefits payable for:

  • Coma resulting from a covered accident
  • Death or disappearance resulting from a covered accident resulting in exposure to the elements
  • Repatriation expenses
  • Seat belt/air bag
